The Van Nom Custom-Made Mattress is handcrafted in Italy by experienced local artisans, with careful attention to every detail. It is not a standard mattress adapted to fit: it is designed from the start as a custom-made mattress, created to perfectly match the shape and dimensions of your space. The materials, thickness and cover are carefully selected to provide comfort, durability and resistance, even with frequent use. Every mattress is made to your specific requirements, because every space deserves a custom-made mattress.

35 kg/m³ high-density foam, 10 cm or 8cm thick — thick enough to sleep well, compact enough not to take up space in the van. A fixed section and a movable section that works as a backrest in sofa mode and as a bed platform once opened.

The cover is removable, water-repellent and breathable. Remove it, wash it, put it back on. Available in 4 colours.

The mattress arrives vacuum-packed. After opening, leave it out for 2–4 hours to fully regain its volume.

Cover

  • Fully removable — take it off using the Velcro fastenings
  • Hand wash or machine wash at low temperatures
  • Avoid harsh detergents or bleach
  • Air dry — do not tumble dry
  • Make sure it is completely dry before putting it back on

Moisture protection

  • Avoid prolonged exposure to standing water or condensation

  • Rotate the mattress periodically to preserve its shape and comfort

The mattress is custom-made by local craftspeople after order confirmation. Lead times are longer than for standard shipping.

What we are often asked about the Mattress

Is the mattress designed specifically for van life?

Yes.

The Van Nom Outdoor Mattress is specifically designed for use in vans; it is not a home mattress that has been adapted.

The materials, thickness, and cover are chosen to withstand: frequent use, humidity, temperature fluctuations, and real-life travel.
Is it suitable for everyday sleeping?


Yes.

The high-density foam (35 kg/m³) offers a good balance between comfort and support, making it suitable even for daily use, not just occasional use.
How thick is the mattress?

The mattress can be 10 or 8 cm thick.

A deliberately balanced choice: thick enough for a good night's sleep, compact enough not to take up space in the van.
Is it a firm or soft mattress?

It is a medium-firm mattress, designed to provide good body support without feeling rigid.

It doesn't sink too much, but it isn't hard either: a balanced solution for those traveling and sleeping in small spaces.
How do you clean it?

The cover is completely removable, easy to take off and clean.

It can be washed by hand or in the washing machine at low temperatures.

We recommend:

  • avoiding harsh detergents
  • not using a tumble dryer
  • letting it air dry
Is it compatible only with the Nom Outdoor Bed?

No.

The Nom Outdoor Mattress is also compatible with other bed systems, provided the measurements are consistent.

That said, it is designed to work perfectly with the Nom Outdoor Bed, especially in the bed/sofa configuration.
